I feel that the open surgery on the mornings are going backwards instead of forwards, we use to have these surgeries over 40 years ago when I was young. Sometimes you need to see a GP that you trust & know quickly, it's a shame that you might have to wait a few days before you can get an appointment with them. However, when I did see the GP I was listened to and felt that I wasn't wasting their time. I was treated kindly and with respect.

Our surgery now have an open surgery every day for a new ailment which is good if you want to see a specific Dr for a routine appointment a bit harder and you usually have to wait a few weeks. I have b12 injections every 12 weeks as I can only make one appointment on line this is inconvenient. I asked if it would be possible to make 2 apps and was told no so have to ring or go round to make appointments

The appointment system could still do with some improvement, e.g. When I present myself at reception I'm told it would be better if I rang the next morning to get an appointment within a couple of days. All that adds to the congestion on the phones in the morning, and just causes more frustration and stress in trying to get through.

The Doctor said she wanted to see me again in four weeks time but when I asked at the reception desk I was told that I would have to contact the surgery nearer the time as there were no appointments available. surely if the doctor wants to see you again within a certain timescale you should be able to make that appointment straight away when you are there.

Currently a same day appointment is unavailable, a patient has to queue and wait their turn which can be over an hour. This 'open' surgery is closed at 11am. until the next day. Some patients try to ensure they are seen by waiting outside in all weathers for the surgery to open. It is usual for this queue to form before 8am. and can number over 30 by 8.30am. I accept some of these patients are for blood tests and other treatments. I feel anger, frustration and hopelessness at this situation and I am sure many others do as well. I am old enough to state this situation was common in the 1950s/60s. We have gone backwards. My suggestions are: Patients representatives to attend the strategy meetings between Practice Manager and GPs. As patients we don't know what the problems are. I, J.E.Button would be prepared to attend. For the Practice Manager to be seen out in the waiting area, and asking patients for their opinions, and to perhaps try to explain the problems.
